About

Michael Stephen Rivers is a bumbling child of God, a forgiven follower of Jesus. All of his music reflects some aspect of his “push me/pull you” relationship with the Divine. And any other story he might want to impress you with only reflects or deflects some insecurity about this true identity.

Michael is a storyteller and in his songs he captures moments in life we all recognize.

A little one is growing up: “It’s the summer of pigtails and missing teeth.” (Up She Rides Away/My Father’s Face)

A family is in crisis: “Huddled at a bedside are love and fear for the one in a cotton gown.” (The Ones We Love/Surrender)

All through his songs you can hear hope: “I will always love you, just as you are.” (Blankets of Stars/My Father’s Face)

And if you listen to enough of his music, you will hear him coming around again and again to ponder what it means to come face to face with Someone who wants our attention.

Michael’s musical path includes a Bachelor of Music Ed from Valparaiso University, a year at Berklee College of Music studying singing and songwriting, countless gigs around the US in churches and coffeehouses and several years leading worship at Lutheran and Vineyard Churches. He and his wife Nancy are proud parents of 4 children. They live with their youngest daughter in Port Angeles, Washington.
